Google Keeps Shipping

Because of all the hoopla on Friday over OpenAI’s text-to-video model Sora, I wasn’t able to cover Google’s latest AI advancement, Gemini 1.5.

So, that’s what we’re doing today.

10 days ago Google released Gemini Ultra, their best model to date. It was a pretty big deal, as it was anywhere from slightly worse to slightly better than GPT-4.

Well, just 10 days later and Google already has a new best model.

Gemini 1.5 is as good as Gemini Ultra, except that it has a 1 million token context window.

In English, it can work with a f*** ton of content. I’m talking like 700,000 words, 30,000 lines of code, and 10 hours of video. Basically, you can feed this thing Shrek, Oppenheimer, and Barbie and still have 3.5 hours left over.

In more practical terms, it means you can feed it entire books. Legal documents. Your entire email inbox. Codebase. Notion, or literally anything else you want, and the model will be able to analyze and assist you.

Combine that power with the power of agents that can run your computer for you, and it becomes clear that we might be in the first inning of a massive productivity boom.
