I got big AI news out of Google and OpenAI for you all on this beautiful Friday.
Bye bye Bard, hello Gemini.
Along with the announcement that Googleās entire AI efforts are now referred to as Gemini, the search giant also released Gemini Ultra, its most powerful model.
And, it looks like GPT-4 finally has some competition.
Gemini might be a bit better at explanations and integrating images, while GPT-4 might be a bit better at coding, but the general feeling is that the two models are basically equivalent.
Thatās a pretty big deal for a company that was caught with their AI pants all the way off when ChatGPT first came out.
Meanwhile, OpenAI has by no means been quiet since ChatGPT and GPT-4, but it feels like they could use a big win here soon.
Their next product could very well be that big win.
OpenAI is working on a form of agent software to automate complex tasks by effectively taking over a customerās device. In other words, they are developing a product that literally does your work for you.
These agents are coming in two forms:
Computer-using agents that take over your device. They can do stuff like filling out reports and logging your expenses.
Web-based agents, which are basically super scrapers.
Nobody knows when OpenAI will release agents, but we do know that theyāve been working on them for a year, and some employees have said they āwill change everything.ā
