šŸ  The Best AI Chatbot Yet?

OpenAI has some fresh comp

Gm. Brett, here! Wanted to pop in and share a little recommendation for an amazing service I've been using - Athena. They basically set you up with an amazing (yet very affordable) full-time executive assistant that helps you manage everything from your email to meeting scheduling and more. Our EA Maria even helps onboard advertisers for Homescreen!

Anyway, we have a pretty sweet deal for Homescreen subscribers - if you sign up before July 31st, you skip the waitlist (its long!) and get a free month along with personalized onboarding. Check it out here.

Claude Get’s An Upgrade

When you think of Anthropic, you probably think of their pioneering of Constitutional AI. AKA, having AI handle its own safety training.

It’s a very innovative idea. So much so that OpenAI is now copying it.

But Anthropic didn’t invent Constitutional AI out of the goodness of their heart. They did it to train their AI model, Claude.

The same model that just got an upgrade.

Enter Claude 2

The upgrade is creatively named ā€œClaude 2ā€, and comes with a host of improvements:

  • Scored a 76.5% on the Bar Exam, up from Claude 1.3’s 73.0%.

  • Scored 71.2% on the Codex Human Level Python coding test, up from Claude 1.3’s 56%.

  • Scored 88% on a large set of grade-school math problems, up from Claude 1.3’s 85.2%.

  • 2x better at giving harmless responses compared to Claude 1.3.

Those are definitely big improvements, but as you can probably guess, Claude 2 isn’t perfect:

  • It’s still not connected to the internet.

  • It’s still prone to hallucinations, albeit less than before.

How Does It Compare To Other Chatbots?

Now, for the part you’ve all been waiting for: is Claude the best AI chatbot yet?

Thankfully, Decrypt has already tested Claude against ChatGPT and Bard:

  • Claude is the best at understanding foreign languages, followed by Bard and then ChatGPT.

  • Bard is the best at giving up-to-date information, which makes sense considering it’s the only chatbot connected to the internet.

  • Claude is the best at handling large chunks of text, and it’s not particularly close.

So the answer for the best chatbot is….inconclusive.

It’s an anticlimactic answer, but it’s also one that is good for consumers considering that we can freely use whatever model we want.

The Bottom Line: Considering the vast sums of money investors are throwing at AI startups, it’s fair to assume that chatbots will continue to improve.

It’s MusicTok Now

Last week, we wrote about TikTok’s publishing ambitions.

Well, it appears TikTok is aiming much higher than just publishing.

They are now attempting to take over music with their new streaming service, TikTok Music.

The service works basically the same as Apple Music and Spotify, except:

  • It provides song recommendations and personalized curation to help users find the latest hot TikTok song. All you have to do is scroll like you would on your regular for you page.

  • You can import your music library and find songs via lyrics search.

  • It has a built-in Shazam-like feature.

If you think this is a stupid idea because music streaming has already been won by Spotify and Apple Music, then you’re probably right.

But, you can’t count out TikTok. After all, it is the dominant social app, especially for young people, which is where new music comes from. And, it’s already signed deals with the major record labels Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music.

In any case, we’ll have to wait to see, as TikTok Music is currently only available in Brazil and Indonesia.

Wishful Thinking: Streaming has been a plus for consumers, but negative for artists. If TikTok Music can find a way to pay the artists it makes famous, Spotify and Apple Music might have a real problem on their hands.
