Battle For Billions
GM! It’s Brett again. It's been about a week since we launched Micro - and man what a week it's been! The biggest thing I realized last week was that inbound customers are 100x better than outbound. Seeing people genuinely excited about what you're building feels surreal.
I regret not doing this sooner so we could have built up the momentum earlier.
And, we're still onboarding folks to the private beta. Join the waitlist here.
🏠 AI
The new search engine
So OpenAI finally dropped their search engine last week. They've baked web search right into ChatGPT, real-time info about everything from stocks to sports, complete with source links. It's running on a souped-up version of GPT-4o for Plus and Team users.
🌐 Introducing ChatGPT search 🌐
ChatGPT can now search the web in a much better way than before so you get fast, timely answers with links to relevant web sources.

They've got major publishers like AP, Reuters, and Axel Springer on board from day one - all with direct licensing deals. Smart move, considering the legal headaches Perplexity's been dealing with lately with News Corp.
We have formed a new global partnership with @axelspringer and its news products.
Real-time information from @politico, @BusinessInsider, European properties @BILD and @welt, and other publications will soon be available to ChatGPT users.

Earlier that week, they also rolled out chat history search. Shows they're thinking about the whole user experience.
We’re starting to roll out the ability to search through your chat history on ChatGPT web.
Now you can quickly & easily bring up a chat to reference, or pick up a chat where you left off.

But the news on the block is that Meta's apparently been cooking up their own AI search engine. Zuck's team has been quietly building this thing for 8 months. Their angle is clear - breaking free from Google and Bing to power Meta AI across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. (even Threads, if people are still using it)
According to @theinformation, Meta is developing their own search engine to lessen the reliance on Google Search.
Given Meta's conversational AI already has hundreds of millions of users, adding search to it will introduce another competitor to the search game.
