The competition with China
GM! It’s Brett again. A recent Brian Chesky video got me thinking - Human interaction can be wildly inefficient, and yeah, we're tempted to automate all that, but as a generation we're also getting weirdly starved for actual human connection.
For totally boring and transactional stuff like taxes and claims, AI is great. But where human connection IS the experience like in medicine or legal advice, you need a human in the loop.
Anyway, while we're all trying to find that sweet spot with AI, OpenAI wants to build AI Economic Zones. Let's dive in.

The Blueprint
OpenAI is set to present their "US AI Infrastructure Blueprint"- a comprehensive plan for massive AI infrastructure development. At its core, it's pushing for rapid expansion of US energy and computing capacity while promoting AI development.
NEW: OpenAI's official "blueprint for U.S. AI infrastructure" involves AI economic zones, tapping the U.S. Navy's nuclear power experience & privately-funded gov projects, according to a document viewed by CNBC, which OpenAI plans to present today in D.C.

They're proposing state-federal AI economic zones to fast-track infrastructure approvals, alongside a National Transmission Highway Act for power, fiber, and gas pipelines. They're also suggesting leveraging the Navy's expertise with small modular reactors to expand civilian nuclear power.
This follows earlier developments. In September, OpenAI was planning to bring together global investors to spend tens of billions on US AI infrastructure projects.
OpenAI's head of global policy Chris Lehane revealed at CSIS that $175 billion in global capital is ready to be invest in AI infrastructure and they plan to bring that home.
OpenAI's Chris Lehane spoke at a CSIS seminar yesterday, detailing the five pillars of their unreleased infrastructure plan. He said that there is $175 billion in global capital looking to invest in AI, and their blueprint aims to bring that investment to America.

And in a recent Reddit AMA, Altman wrote about facing limitations and hard decisions in allocating compute resources, noting that 'all of these models have gotten quite complex.'
The blueprint also proposes a North American AI alliance that could expand into a global network, including potential partnerships with regions like the UAE and Gulf Cooperation Council.
The big picture - OpenAI's infrastructure push comes amid a broader trend of AI companies deepening their government ties. Following recent moves by Anthropic, Meta, and others into defense contracts, OpenAI's blueprint suggests AI companies aren't just seeking government as a customer - they're now pushing for significant public-private partnership in building fundamental AI infrastructure.

👋 A Quick Note About Micro
Micro is a CRM that doesn't feel like homework and an email client that knows what matters. Simply put, it's an all-in-one productivity tool that organizes itself so you don't have to.
I built Micro with some friends because I was tired of getting guilt tripped for not hitting inbox 0 and having to bounce around between so many tools to do my job.
