Q* to Strawberry

Reuters just reported that OpenAI's working on a new AI model called Strawberry to improve AI reasoning capabilities. We're talking about AI that can do "deep research" by autonomously navigating the internet.

Strawberry is essentially Q*.

Q* is the secretive project that reportedly caused internal concerns and and Sam Altman's brief firing from OpenAI, back in November 2023.

Strawberry is an evolution of OpenAI's previously rumored Q* project.

Here's where it gets interesting: Strawberry might have similarities to a method developed at Stanford called "Self-Taught Reasoner" or "STaR", AI models that can "bootstrap" themselves into higher intelligence levels by iteratively creating their own training data.

One of the Stanford researchers even suggested it could potentially push language models beyond human-level intelligence.

OpenAI's aiming for Strawberry to perform "long-horizon tasks" - complex tasks requiring planning and a series of actions over an extended period.

The big picture: We're on the brink of witnessing the early stages of more advanced AI systems.

A lot of this is still under wraps. We don't know exactly what Strawberry can do or when (if ever) it'll be released. But if it lives up to the hints we're getting, it could represent a major leap forward in AI capabilities.
