Sneaky Leak!

So OpenAI got hacked last year, and we're just hearing about it now.

Some sneaky attacker managed to breach their internal messaging system and nabbed info from employee discussions about their latest AI developments. They didn't get into the core systems with the training data or algorithms, but still, it's a big deal.

OpenAI kept it quiet, only telling their staff and board in April 2023. Their reasoning? No customer data was compromised, and they thought it was just some lone wolf, not a state actor. But not everyone was cool with this hush-hush approach.

Leopold Aschenbrenner, an OpenAI tech program manager, called out the company's security measures. He argued they weren't robust enough to fend off potential foreign adversaries (think China) from snagging crucial intel.

OpenAI ended up firing him for leaking info, but he claims it was political retaliation.
