An investor told a friend of mine this straight to his face.

And honestly? He's probably right.

But here's the thing: Google was supposed to kill every search startup. Apple was supposed to own every consumer app. Meta was supposed to own all of social. Companies still got built, scaled, and won.

The ones that survived weren't out-muscling the giants. They made a specific bet on a specific future the giants weren't building toward.

That's the whole game. My friend Mike Heller from Floodgate puts it perfectly: investors don't care about your features.

They care about what future you believe in, and whether you're the right team to get there.

So when people say OpenAI is coming for your category, the right question isn't "how do we compete?" It's "what do we believe about the future that they don't?"
