Sky-jo has got beef with OpenAI

The Voice Drama

The TL;DR is that OpenAI unveiled GPT-4o and one of the synthetic voices they used is called "Sky" and has an uncanny resemblance to Samantha, the virtual assistant voiced by ScarJo in the movie “Her”.
The Scarlett camp claims OpenAI reached out multiple times, including just days before the demo, to get her on board to voice the AI herself. When she declined, they went ahead and created an imitation voice anyway.
Where it gets interesting though is whether this actually constitutes a legal violation of publicity rights.
OpenAI seems to have a legitimate defense that Sky was voiced by a different professional actor, even if the resemblance is crazy close. They've provided documentation around their whole casting process from way before Scarlett was ever involved.
Now you could argue they were still aiming for a deliberate soundalike, which has been grounds for lawsuits before (see: Bette Midler v Ford Motor Company). But the claims of outright voice imitation or use of recordings seem tough to prove.
The question on my mind is: Was it really worth all this PR mess just to kind of impersonate Scarlett's voice?
Maybe not. But it certainly feels like a big goof-up.
David Sacks on the All-In Podcast said, "If they never reached out to Scarlett, they could claim it's just a coincidence. But they called her twice - some months before and then two days before, which indicates panic."
It likely gets settled quietly. OpenAI cuts Scarlett a check, maybe even an "advisory" role and everyone moves on to focus on the bigger gen AI game.
But this is another example of OpenAI's growing pains as they transition from upstart to cultural heavyweight. When you yield that level of influence, every misstep gets magnified.

⚡️ Start recovering lost revenue on autopilot
Regardless of whether you receive 1 or 100 chargebacks a month, manually handling them is a misuse of time that could be better spent on activities with a higher return on investment, particularly for founders.
Instead, you should join Wordtune and the 5,000+ online businesses that use Chargeflow to win chargebacks on autopilot.
Here's how it works:
Start the onboarding funnel and connect your apps (takes 3 minutes)
You only pay a % once the app gets the job done (wins chargebacks on your behalf)
There are no commitments or fine prints, plus it integrates with Stripe, PayPal, and all payment processors.

My good friend and partner in Launch House Ventures announced his new company, Superpower last week.
It's pretty awesome - I've been using their product for a while now - so I figured I'd share a bit about it with you.

The healthcare system is a total mess these days. That coupled with processed foods, pollution, and our crazy work lives, has made it very hard hard to actually stay healthy. Which is something I've been really trying to do this year and superpower has been helpful.
Instead of just treating you when you're already sick, Superpower looks at your blood work, genes, gut health, habits, etc - the full picture. Their whole thing is prevention and optimizing your well-being before issues even pop up.
What feels very futuristic is that all your health data is aggregated into a single dashboard and there's a concierge you can message any time you want - I text it about everything from fitness stuff to supplements.
Superpower is one of a growing group of startups in the longevity space, which is having a moment right now. People have always wanted to live longer, but now more than ever it seems as though we have the means to do so. But doing so often means circumventing the existing healthcare system.
