🏠 Road to GPT-5

Need More GPUs

In partnership with

GM! It’s Brett again. I got this absolutely insane device in the mail last week from one of my investors, Spacecadet Ventures. Just watch the video.

But this isn’t just some cool gadget, it’s a masterclass in how to build hype.

Startups need hype to grow. VCs need hype to raise funds. And Spacecadet nailed it.

The formula is stupid simple:

  1. Identify everyone you know with a large audience on social

  2. Make something they have to share.

  3. Do it every 6 months.

It doesn’t need to be some crazy futuristic tech. A startup called Default sent me a bottle of champagne last week as well - it’s simple, but it worked. Same reaction, same buzz.

OpenAI finally released GPT-4.5, last week, their largest model yet. The initial rollout is limited to $200/month Pro subscribers, with Plus users getting access this week.

Performance-wise, 4.5 brings better EQ and conversation skills.

It hallucinates less and crushes the SimpleQA benchmark for factual accuracy.

But on the harder math and science tests, the reasoning models (o1, o3-mini) still win. Despite its massive size and GPU requirements, it can't even outperform smaller, more focused models on the complex tasks where businesses actually need reliability.

The most eyebrow-raising part is the API pricing: $75/$150 per million input/output tokens. That's 30x/15x more expensive than GPT-4o. Altman's explanation was that they're "out of GPUs" and need "tens of thousands" more.

The bigger picture - GPT-4.5 represents a turning point in traditional scaling approaches. OpenAI's former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever stated we've "achieved peak data" and pre-training "will unquestionably end," signaling the industry shift toward reasoning-based improvements. GPT-5, slated for May release, will be the first to integrate the GPT series with the “o” reasoning architecture. This strategic pivot addresses the diminishing returns seen in GPT-4.5's benchmarks despite its enormous compute requirements. While GPT-4.5 already shows reduced hallucination rates, the upcoming hybrid approach aims to further improve consistency and reliability - the key challenges that have limited even the largest language models from achieving broader practical adoption.

Simple tricks to get a ton of value with minimal effort for work and life.

The Camcorder Method

A ridiculously easy way to delegate without the usual headache: record yourself doing the task.

Use Loom (or any screen recorder) and walk through the task like you’re training your future replacement. Even things like giving feedback on designs, reviewing contracts, answering a common question - just screen record it.

No meetings, no back-and-forth, just a video people can watch on demand.

Dan Martell calls this the Camcorder Method, and it’s great for delegation. The goal isn’t perfection - it’s leverage. If someone else can do the task at 80% of your level, that’s a massive win.

Why? Because now you’re not the bottleneck. Instead of spending your time on repeatable tasks, you’re free to focus on the work that actually moves the needle.

👋 A Quick Note About Micro

Micro is a CRM that doesn't feel like homework and an email client that knows what matters. Simply put, it's an all-in-one productivity tool that organizes itself so you don't have to.

I built Micro with some friends because I was tired of getting guilt tripped for not hitting inbox 0 and having to bounce around between so many tools to do my job.

We're launching in 2025, but if you want early access, sign up for the waitlist at micro.so and respond to the confirmation email saying you came from Homescreen.
