Since Sam Altman’s ousting and reinstatement, the narrative has been that the AI safetyists lost the war. There was thought that the lost coup would lead to an entirely different governance structure. An e/acc board. New products out the wazoo. Altman as the supreme ruler of the world. You know, the whole 9.
In reality, it looks like they merely lost the battle, not the war.
Because OpenAI’s board is staying investor and Altman free.
Microsoft, Khosla Ventures, Thrive Capital, and Sequoia Capital are all going to have no say on the 9-person board.
Instead, the current board of Bret Taylor, Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo (the lone leftover from the last board) will work to add six additional board members.
