OpenAI and Anthropic get all the shine, but don’t sleep on Mistral.
The Paris-based AI startup is launching a new LLM, Mistral Large, that is competitive with OpenAI’s GPT-4 and Claude 2, although it isn’t fully clear where it fits in:
In related news, Mistral is also launching Le Chat, a ChatGPT competitor. There have been many ChatGPT competitors, but the advantage of this one is that you can use Mistral Large for free (at least for now).
So, if you need GPT-4 level performance and don’t have $20/month to spare, Le Chat might be worth a try.
Finally, in maybe the biggest news of the day, Mistral announced a partnership with Microsoft that’ll see Mistral provide their models to Azure customers and Microsoft investing $16M into Mistral. Yeah, the same Microsoft that bankrolls OpenAI.
