Microsoft Takes Off
This week was Microsoft Ignite, its annual IT event. Which means we got a lot of shiny new toys.
Let’s break it down.
1) Bing Chat Is Now Called Copilot.
I guess this means that Microsoft is giving up on Bing ever catching Google. Fair, but they couldn’t pick any other name? There are like 10 Copilots now.
2) New AI Tools
As if it could get any more confusing, Microsoft released a bunch of specific Copilots.
Copilot for Azure is a chatbot for cloud customers.
Copilot for Service is a chatbot for customer service needs.
Copilot in Dynamic 365 Guides is a chatbot for frontline workers.
Copilot Studio can be used to create custom chatbots.
Cool stuff but seriously guys, let’s come up with some new names.
3) Custom Microsoft AI Chips
Microsoft is building two custom-designed in-house AI chips, the Maia 100 and Cobalt 100. Can’t blame them. I’d get sick of always being short on chips too.
4) Teams Is Getting AI Upgrades Too
Teams is being swagged out with an AI home decorator and AI noise reduction.
5) Microsoft is rolling up its project management tools.
Microsoft To Do, Microsoft Planner, and Microsoft Project are all being rolled up into one product.
6) Windows AI Studio
Microsoft is making it easier to run AI models offline in Windows apps.
7) Azure AI Speech Text-To-Speech Avatars
Microsoft has basically released a deepfake creator.
Hmmm: You think Microsoft likes AI?
