OpenAI, Who?

GM! Brett, here! Wanted to pop in and share a little recommendation for an amazing service I've been using - Athena. They basically set you up with an amazing (yet very affordable) full-time executive assistant that helps you manage everything from your email to meeting scheduling and more. Our EA Maria even helps onboard advertisers for Homescreen!

Anyway, we have a pretty sweet deal for Homescreen subscribers - if you sign up before July 31st, you skip the waitlist (it's long!) and get $1,000 off on your second invoice!

Safe Superintelligence

Just a month after his spicy exit from OpenAI, Ilya's already moved on to his next thing - Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI for short).

Ilya and his co-founders, Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy, believe that Superintelligence is within reach and that developing safe Superintelligence is "the most important technical problem of our time."

They are taking a unique approach by tackling safety and capabilities in parallel, treating them as "technical problems to be solved through revolutionary engineering and scientific breakthroughs."

And they didn't hold back on OpenAI, boasting that their singular focus means no distractions from management headaches or product cycles, and their business model shields safety, security, and progress from short-term commercial pressures.

Of course, SSI is gambling big on hitting breakthroughs to compete with larger rivals who have a head start. And let's be real – it's not even clear if their end goal is achievable. But Ilya has spent years contemplating AI safety, and he's got some initial thoughts on what "safe superintelligence" actually means.

For starters, he says it should avoid harming humanity on a large scale (yep, the bar is that low). Beyond that, SSI wants it to be a "force for good" based on values like liberty, democracy, and freedom that have worked well for liberal democracies.

No word yet on how they'll bake that into the tech, but hey, they're working on it.

So will Ilya's second act live up to the hype? Only time (and a ton of computing power) will tell.

But one thing's for sure – the race to Superintelligence just got a little more interesting, and a lot more shady.
