When you think of Tesla, you generally think of two things:

Tesla’s has the first part covered. The second part…has proven more challenging.

After 7 years and 11 versions now, version 12 is supposed to be the one to finally put us out of our misery. The big upgrade in v12 is that the car would now be driven by neural nets (AI) instead of code.

Basically, in prior versions, there were 300,000 lines of code that were supposed to cover everything that could happen on the road. That obviously didn’t work. So now they are trying an AI trained on millions of driving video clips.

We got to see a little teaser of v12 back in August when Elon took to the streets, and it looked pretty good back then. Now, a beta version of v12 is finally being rolled out to customers.

And early reviews are coming back cautiously positive.

But we won’t know if Tesla has finally cracked this nut until it is fully rolled out.

The Big Picture: Elon has talked a big game when it comes to Tesla’s AI capability, and full self-driving is supposed to be Tesla’s “ChatGPT moment”. It would really help Tesla’s cause if v12 could deliver, especially in a world where EV demand is starting to stall a bit.

Raise: INERATEC, an e-Fuel company, announced it has raised over $129 million in its Series B funding round.

Stat: 160,000 to 180,000: The amount of first-weekend pre-order sales for the Vision Pro.
