TWITTER

Enter Twitter Payments

Elon's quest to make money from Twitter has been...interesting.

Whether it's the crazy amount of layoffs or the Twitter Blue side mission, Twitter's been must-see TV since Elon's takeover.

Now, the show is moving on to its next act:

Elon wants to turn Twitter into a payments app.

The Plan

Elon has big plans for Twitter payments. He wants you to be able to tip creators, buy stuff directly on Twitter, and send money to other people.

In Elon's dream world, we'll soon be going "Amazon? Nahhhh, I'll just use Twitter" and "don't Venmo me bro, just Tweet me".

Yeah, that's going to take some getting used to, and because of regulatory challenges, it's going to be a while before it comes to fruition.

The Everything App

The pivot to payments is a return to Elon's roots, who famously founded X.com, an online bank that eventually became PayPal.

But, it's also the next step in Elon's grand vision of turning Twitter into an "everything app" similar to China's WeChat.

Elon wants Twitter to be an app where people talk, shitpost, make payments, and buy stuff.

Basically, an app where you never have to leave.

It's a sound plan in today's world of ever-increasing competition and perpetually decreasing attention spans, but is it possible?

We'll just have to wait and find out.
