šŸ  Elon. Zuck. Thunderdome.

Hands will be thrown

Gm. Happy Friday everyone. The last few days were a bit light on major news, but don’t fret, I have a fun one for you today. Two of the richest men in the world have agreed to fight in a cage and there’s now a robot that can teach itself. If that’s not a must-read newsletter, I don’t know what is.

Elon v. Zuck

Mixed martial arts employs some of the best and toughest athletes in the world. If they aren’t punching you with the force of a 1000 suns, then they are choking you until you wake up on Heaven’s doorstep.

Needless to say, this isn’t exactly a realm where you’d expect to be talking about Elon and Zuck. But here we are.

So, as is usually the case with Elon, this story begins on Twitter. He caught wind of a tweet about Meta’s new Twitter rival, and naturally, he took a shot at it. Nothing too out of the ordinary yet.

But then, the legendary @kwmarkoff26656 entered the chat. Like any good Twitter user would, they warned Elon that taking shots at Zuck might not be too smart considering that Zuck is now a jiu-jitsu champion. Elon responded as only Elon could: ā€œI’m up for a cage match if he is lolā€.

Instigator of the year award to kwmarkoff26656.

Zuck, all jacked up from his morning bowl of nails, immediately responded with a simple ā€œsend me locationā€. If you’re an MMA fan, you know how savage of a response that is.

Now, you might be thinking this is all a joke. But no, these dudes are dead freaking serious. It might even be offered as a fight in the UFC. So, there’s only thing for us to do: offer an official Homescreen prediction.

On the one hand, Zuck is an absolute physical specimen. Besides winning jiu-jitsu competitions, he crushes ridiculously hard workouts in times that would make a Marine proud. On the other hand, Elon admittedly doesn’t work out and is banking on ā€œWalrusingā€ on Zuck until he gives up.

All logic points to Zuck wiping the floor with Elon. But, the most entertaining outcome is the most likely, so we’re rolling with Elon.

Why should I care? There’s literally no reason to care besides the fact that this would be the most entertaining thing maybe ever.

šŸ  FUTURISTIC

A Robot That Teaches Itself

The ultimate dream of robotics is to build a general-purpose robot. You know; a robot that can cook, clean, and pick up your DoorDash, instead of just pick up your DoorDash.

Unfortunately, right now all we have are robots that can do one specific task at a time.

RoboCat is a step toward the coveted general-purpose future.

Developed by Google’s DeepMind AI research lab, RoboCat is a ā€œself-improving AI agent for roboticsā€. Sounds fancy, but it’s actually quite simple:

  • RoboCat learns a new task from ~100 demonstrations of that task.

  • It then creates a spin-off agent dedicated to this task.

  • That spin-off agent practices this new task 10,000 times.

  • Which is then incorporated into the general RoboCat dataset.

The result is RoboCat enables robot arms to perform multiple tasks, pick up new tasks, and continuously improve themselves.

Super cool stuff.

The Big Picture: At this rate, we’ll have our personal robot butlers in no time.
