Arm Files For An IPO

You may have seen the subject line of todayās newsletter and thought, āwhat the hell are they talking aboutā.
Well, weāre talking about none other than the current main character, Arm.
Also known as the newest tech company to go public.
A Big Deal
Itās hard to find a tech company more important to the world than Arm.
That iPhone youāre reading this email on? Powered by a chip designed by Arm. Oh, you have an Android? Yeah, same thing.
99% of the worldās smartphones use a chip designed by Arm. The company is so important that its CEO literally said other tech companies out there have no choice but to work with Arm.
It was for this reason that SoftBank acquired Arm for $32B back in 2016.
Taking The Show Public
Of course, SoftBank is in the business of making money. So they tried to sell Arm to chip kingpin Nvidia. But that plan failed because of regulator pushback.
So they said screw it and are taking Arm public in New York instead.
And with an expected valuation between $60B and $70B, it could be quite lucrative for SoftBank.
A Lot Of Room To Run
There is good reason to believe that Armās best days are still ahead of them.
The newfound demand for AI has caused a chip boom, and Arm is well-positioned to capitalize. They have already made two new chip sets specifically designed for AI applications.
If they play their cards right, thereās no reason why this IPO canāt be a very successful one.
The Big Picture: Tech IPOs have been chilly for a couple years now. Armās debut might be the spark to get the fire started again.
