š AI Will Make An Artist Out Of You
Stable doodles and CM3Leons
Gm. Iām still in Paris, so hereās a Paris fun fact. Contrary to popular belief, the Eiffel Tower is not actually the most visited attraction in Paris. Notre-Dame, Sacre-Couer, and the Louvre all have it beat. Have fun whipping that one out during your next French-themed trivia night.

Two New AI Art-Generators

Art-deficient people rejoice, AI is coming to save you.
The past few years have already brought a wave of relief for those of us whose idea of art is stick figures. DALL-E, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion are just some of the AI art-generating models that are now available to the masses, and they are all great.
But thereās always room for more. And more we are receiving.
Stable Doodle
Stable Doodle is the latest image-generating model from Stability AI, the creator of Stable Diffusion.
More specifically, itās a sketch-to-image model.
It works exactly like it sounds. You cook up a quick sketch, and the model brings it to life with a picture that most people could never dream of making of their own.

CM3Leon
CM3Leon is the latest art-generating model from Meta, and they are claiming itās state-of-the-art (lol). The breakthrough comes from CM3Leonās use of āattentionā.
Current art-generators use ādiffusionā. Basically, the starting image is full of fluff, and the model removes the fluff until it gets to the target prompt. The problem with this is that itās computationally intensive, expensive, and slow.
CM3Leon uses attention, which as you can probably guess, is the opposite of diffusion. This makes it much more efficient, and thus, makes it much more likely that the model can be used in real-world settings.
The Bottom Line: Itās a good time to be someone who sucks at art.

AI Detectors, Explained
Itās pretty clear at this point that some of the heaviest users of AI are students. You can see this in the stark drop in ChatGPTās usage from May to June, or by just walking around any school in the country.
Naturally, teachers want to prevent kids from using ChatGPT to write their papers. So theyāve turned to āAI detectorsā.
The problem with these tools is they arenāt accurate in the slightest. Case in point: if you give it the US Constitution, it will tell you itās AI-generated. Unless we really messed up history, James Madison was not cooking up with AI.
So, whatās going on here? Why are detectors so bad at their job? The answer is actually pretty simple.
Detectors are trained on a vast amount of written data from both humans and AI, and have rules to determine if a text is AI or human-written. These rules basically come down to how complex the writing is. The more complex the writing is, the less likely the detector is to say itās AI-generated.
In short: if you write with a simple style, detectors are going to think you are a robot.
This wouldnāt be a big deal except that educators are using it to flunk entire classes, which is especially bad news for non-native English writers.
TLDR: Detectors are unusable for the foreseeable future.
The Big Picture: Educators are going to have to think of a new way to regulate AI usage in the classroom, or change the way they teach entirely.
