šŸ  AI Ads Are Coming

Netflix and YouTube are blending ads into your content using AI

GM! It’s Brett again. Just got back from SF, and I’ve been thinking about all the wealth that’s been created there - and all the times I missed it.

If I had played a few things differently, I’d probably be worth ~$100M today.

Like most of us, I’ve had several misses - didn’t buy enough BTC/ETH in 2013, barely missed joining Stripe and Uber in 2014.

But I've come to appreciate these misses for what they gave me: a massive chip on my shoulder that has driven me to create and do more in life.

Hot Drop

Lot of big stories from last week.

Netflix and YouTube decided you're not watching enough ads - so they're using AI to fix that.

At its recent Upfront event, Netflix revealed plans to roll out interactive, generative AI ads designed to blend naturally into shows like "Stranger Things" or "Wednesday." Think custom overlays and clickable second-screen actions right in the middle or on pause screens - coming later this year.

YouTube announced something similar at its Brandcast event. They're introducing "Peak Points" ads, strategically placed by Google's Gemini AI, right after the most engaging moments in videos, aiming to maximize attention without disrupting key scenes.

Then OpenAI launched Codex. It isn't just a fancy chatbot - it runs in your browser, manages files, directories, and autonomously executes code. Big names like Cisco and Superhuman are already on board.

At Anthropic, things got interesting financially. They secured a massive $2.5B revolving credit line, following OpenAI’s $4 billion line last October.

And Google’s doubling down on AI integration too, expanding Gemini's presence across Android devices - Wear OS smartwatches, Android Auto, Google TV, and upcoming AR glasses. Plus, they're enhancing accessibility features: richer image descriptions via TalkBack, expressive captions capturing speech nuances, and built-in OCR for Chrome PDFs.

The big picture - Last week underscored how deeply AI's embedding itself - not just in big tech’s bottom lines, but directly into everyday user experiences. Expect the digital spaces around us. From streaming to coding to commuting - to become more seamlessly (and yes, profitably) AI-driven.

šŸŽÆ The 80 / 20

Simple tricks to get a ton of value with minimal effort for work and life.

Subtraction > Addition

Most people try to fix problems by adding. A new app. A new routine. A new habit. But often, the fix is subtraction.

  • You want to focus better: don’t add another productivity tool - just remove three.

  • you’re trying to get fit: don’t start a complicated gym plan - cut out late-night sugar first.

  • You’re overwhelmed at work: don’t create a new system - just clear your desk and calendar.

This applies everywhere - design, writing, and life in general.

The real 80/20 move isn’t doing more. It’s doing less, but better. Less noise, fewer distractions, simpler systems. That’s where leverage lives.

šŸ‘‹ A Quick Note About Micro

Micro is a CRM that doesn't feel like homework and an email client that knows what matters. Simply put, it's an all-in-one productivity tool that organizes itself so you don't have to.

I built Micro with some friends because I was tired of getting guilt tripped for not hitting inbox 0 and having to bounce around between so many tools to do my job.

That said, Homescreen subscribers can cut the line - go to micro.so/waitlist, join the waitlist, and write in ā€œHomescreenā€ for Other in the ā€œHow did you hear about usā€ question to get early access.
